Henshaws Roofing Supplies, a main supplier of Sandtoft clay roof tiles, used their specialist knowledge to fulfil the remit from Kevin Price for this challenging property.

His semi detached house situated in Chorltonville, South Manchester is in a Garden Village dating back to 1911.

They are mainly semi-detached houses built in the ‘arts and crafts’ style with an ideal for design, beauty, healthy conveniently planned homes. The garden village includes grass verges an abundance of trees winding roads and occasional greens.

In 1991 Manchester City Council recognised this as a conservation area because of its unique historical and architectural interest.

Kevin Price has been renovating his home over the past 9 years and had a very high specification in replicating original detail. When approached by his adjoining neighbour to replace his roof his first choice was to re-use the original clay tiles.

Gerry Gilmore an established customer of Henshaws Roofing Supplies was asked to carry out the contracting and his first thought was to visit Henshaws with a view to using the free of charge ‘take off’ service.

When George Henshaw visited the site he was able to advise Gerry of a re-roof that had been completed some years earlier within this conservation area using Tuscan 20/20’s.

Henshaws Roofing Supplies offered Kevin the opportunity to see what an excellent alternative to second hand tiles 20/20's could be. They are well suited in his locality and are a very durable product.

This knowledge gave Kevin and his neighbour absolute confidence to make the choice for Sandtoft ‘new clay tiles’.

The tiles were fitted in April 2008 using Sandtoft Tuscan 20/20 tiles and angle capped ridge on the main roof with Tuscan Humber tiles on lower roofs.

On completion of the work Kevin commented that: ‘After witnessing how well Sandtoft clay tiles weather my choice was made easy’. He had chosen a new tile that has the look feel and quality of the original clay tiles. This new clay tile comes with a 60 year guarantee, is eco-friendly and gives a real feel good factor to his home.

The Sandtoft clay tiles have given his property a striking individual feel complementing the external appearance and adding value to his home.

He commented that, ‘Choosing 20/20’s was a real cost effective alternative to second hand clay tiles and offered a brilliant solution’.
